Trijam #256 -- Only three

The 100-eye god has come to reap your soul. You must destroy is 100 eyes to survive! But there are too many of them, you will have to take on Only Three at a time...

[UPDATE v1.1]

  • Button presses are now queued, instead of rejected during an attack
  • Updates to background art, eyes, and attacks
  • Expanded score screen for clarity

How to play:

  • Use [WASD] or the arrow keys to attack (if your page is scrolling, either click in the window, or use [WASD])
  • The eyes appear in batches of (only) 3
  • The eyes will attack at a given interval if you haven't destroyed them all
  • If you miss an attack (attack an empty space) the eyes will use that opening to attack you!
  • Destroy all 100 eyes to win!

NOTE: lower scores are better (game_time - health * 5)

I’m wondering how you came up with this unique idea. I like how simple it is, which makes it addicting

If I had to find one thing for improvement, it would be a bit of visual feedback between the enemy waves, and when enemies attack. I find it hardly noticeable. Anyway, that’s my 0.02$

Ah yes I totally agree. I was unfortunately running short on time on this entry, as I spent more time than usual on making the sprites. At first, the eyes just disappeared and reappeared. And with only a bit of time, I managed to make the eyes red on the one frame where they got hit, and yellow on the one frame where they appeared. I agree it's not very much. Same with the red-lightning attack thing, it's only visible for one frame. It mostly came down to me not having an entity system in this game. Something I've been thinking about writing a template for so that I can reuse it in future jams.

In regards to how I came up with the idea, I don't really remember! haha :P it was friday morning, and i was tired and had to make a game in 3 hours :D

I love the creepy vibe of this game, the art is simple but effective. My score was 14.8something  11.23! Amazing work

The game is just to addictive, its simple play style makes it easy to learn yet hard to master, I also like the sfx and the artstyle, pretty good game, all in all :)
